READINGOATECA uses skills taught in the Early Literacy Skills Builder curriculum. This curriculum was developed after an exhaustive research had been done looking for commercially available curriculum that was appropriate for students with significant disabilities. The research team RAISE, found none that existed that did not require a fairly sophisticated verbal skill level that most students in this category did not possess (D.B. Taylor et al. 2010).
WRITINGOATECA uses Janet Sturm’s First Author writing curriculum. Janet believes that the first steps in fine motor writing skills involve tracing and copying. These are therefore a part of our Functional Skills Assessment and provided academic activities.
MATHOATECA uses similar activities and vocabulary from the alternate Dynamic Learning Map assessment.
